Happy New Year! What?!? It’s still January. I can still say that with a straight face.
How’s your year going so far? How about those resolutions? Touchy subject? Sorry. Don’t worry. You have 11 more months to reach them. It’ll be fine.
I, for one, don’t like New Year’s resolutions. Not because I don’t like setting goals. Quite the opposite. I’m a goal setter. Big time. In fact, I am constantly setting “resolutions” (otherwise referred to as “goals” on the other 364 days of the year) for myself. I actually like to take a break on January 1 from the constant desire to better myself. Maybe because it makes me feel less guilty on that first day of the year when I roll out of bed with a pounding headache; hoping my purse, wallet, and cell phone are all still accounted for; and craving grease, salt, coffee and gatorade all at the same time. Less like I didn’t just ruin a perfectly good start to the year.
I believe in taking the better part of January to really flesh out one’s goals for the year ahead. Or maybe that’s what I’m telling myself because it’s January 28th and I’m just now getting around to posting this.
Whatever it is, we’ve spent 27 days thinking about what we want to get out of 2012, and I think it’s about time the Mexican and the Redhead sack up, put pen to paper, and share with you some of our goals for the year. Drum roll, please….
The Redhead:
1. Take a photo a week and post it here and here.
2. Try this cleanse.
3. Convince the Mexican to do #2 with me. And stay married.
4. Do yoga weekly.
5. Find a new brunch spot.
6. Cut the J.Crew cord. Buy stuff from local shops and boutiques.
7. Sign up for delivery of this (again).
8. Go to Hawaii.
9. Do more blog posts. Even if I think the only people who will read them or care about them are our moms.
The Mexican:
1. Brush up on Spanish.
2. Check out Portland’s iconic restaurants. Like this one.
3. Explore other neighborhoods that aren’t within walking distance of our apartment.
4. Drink more Willamette Valley wine. At Willamette Valley wineries.
5. Try cross-country skiing.
6. Climb here more than once every 6 months.
7. Take my beautiful, talented, smart, totally awesome wife to Hawaii.
8. Agree to go on a cleanse with my beautiful, talented, smart, totally awesome wife. And love it.
Ta-da! And there you have it. With goals like these, how could 2012 be anything but incredible?
Now that we’ve shared ours with you. It’s your turn. What are you going to do this year?
